Fantastic Fungi, The Forbidden Fruit (Video)
Imagine an organism that feeds you, cures you, reveals secrets of the universe, may have advanced the proto-human brain, and today could help save the planet. An organism that seems to be conscious.
Now imagine that it’s in the ground beneath your feet.
If you haven’t seen this yet, take a moment to see the inspiration that began the journey…
Louie Schwartzberg has touched countless millions of people around the globe with his unique appreciation for that which is all around us. Mushrooms become ballerinas, and fungi connects us to the entire universe beneath our feet.
This video begat the idea for a full-length film, bringing together an impressive collection of the worlds experts on the subject, in pursuit of creating a tool to inspire, educate and shift how we view fungi.
The vision evolved into creating this community site, which will not only launch the film, but will serve as the vehicle for a crowdfunding campaign – so we all can claim ownership of this together – as well as entertain the wide variety of interests and passions: foodies, explorers, scientists, rebels, geeks.
Together we will share, laugh, ignite and help cultivate the truest meaning of community. And, we’ll do so while celebrating the very fungi that surrounds us.

I shared and look forward to seeing this important film. Appreciate the efforts involved in the making of this informative and inspiring film. I am doing my little part by adding mycorrhizal fungi to my soil.

I would ask this question to our community, and I bet you’d get some great answers!
Love it all! Am interested in it all and especially love the medicinal properties of mushrooms, the interconnectedness of all of life… We Are One! Keep up the good work!
Kindest Regards,

I absolutely loved this clip. How can I get to see the full version?
Hi, Anne! Thank you so much. These comments warm our hearts. Stick around and look for film updates in 2015. We are as eager as you to see this come to…. fruition (couldn’t help myself). It’s going to be an amazing project!
Thanks
This is clip is what I like to hear from people. I think the same way. I love the way nature was captured in this. I have had an interest in all things that I can eat outside. I want to one day live outside eating nothing but what I find outside. I am a little nervous when it comes to mushrooms, there are lot out there and some look like ones you can eat but are very poisonous. I love that mushrooms make the soil better. When I find them I take pictures of them all the time. I also work with herbal teas and oils. I try and use as much of the outdoors that I can. To teach people what nature has to offer us. That nature is our help.
ESTO ME PARECE REALMENTE ALUCINANTE !!!!DESDE MUY PEQUEÑA EN EL LUGAR QUE VIVÍA ,ME ENCONTRABA CON ALGUNO – PERO LA IGNORANCIA DE LOS MAYORES ME INQUIETABA INCULCÁNDOME MIEDOS .”DICIENDO QUE ERAN VENENOSOS” , SINCERAMENTE ,ME PARECEN FASCINANTES Y AGRADECIDA DE ENCONTRAR ESTE SITO !!!EXSULTÁNTEMENTE MARAVILLOSO!!!!
Most excellent! Let’s do it! Together we can save Earth and feed everyone.
I love fungi, as food or simply by their subtle elegance. They can cure or make you ill, they have been our partners in life for as long as humanity exists.Thank you for sharing these photos and videos.
Using mushrooms to heal and nature people through tonics and elixirs
wonderful photography…
Amazing concept. I would love to see the whole movie. I am a student currently studying to get a degree in environmental engineering. Having taken courses involving topics you discussed, my childhood curiosities about nature have been reignited.
I have always had a fascination for fungi, looking forward to the film. Wonderful video.
Sounds great!!!
When is it being released +will you have it on your website or how can I access it upon release?
Thanks
I live in Madison Wisconsin and have just bought a piece of land in the city with a number of maples, ash and pine. I have been stock piling the dead tree and branches on the land and am interested growing fungi on them.
I know if I leave them alone that it will just happen. But I also practice Chinese Medicine and know that fungi have antibacterial properties.
Can you suggest a place to purchase spores of various editable species?
Your trailer was awe inspired, although those words are inadequate. There aren’t words to say what it sparked in my soul.
I’m on a journey myself to learn to become a soul that can connect other souls to each other and this grand place that was given to us to care for and also to connect to the stars. To realize that everyone and everything in the universe is connected and needs to be handled with love and care.
I’ve just taken baby steps where as you look to be well on your journey! So, I do hope you walk and run and enjoy yourself on the journey you are on!
Love and light to you!
Thank you for being so passionate about nature and sharing your passion. It’s very inspiring. I look forward to watching this finished film and I hope by spreading your message more people will open their eyes to what nature is doing all around us and more people will fight to preserve it. You’ve certainly made me more aware of fungi and piqued my interest. There is something very beautiful about the interconnectedness of nature. I find it fascinating.
I am currently studying a horticulture course and for my investigative project I will be testing mycorrhizal fungi with some cultivated varieties of plant to demonstrate its benefits within a plant growing medium. I think it’s important that more people become aware of how valuable fungi are to all life.
Keep up the great work and I hope you achieve your goals. 🙂
Will this movie come out in Australia?! I would love to enjoy it fully!
Great work! So inspirational!
Love what you’re doing. Humor me and fix the apostrophe missing in your intro: “collection of the world’s experts on the subject,” (even fun guys can use a proofreader 😉
Paul Stamets is something of a hero to me, really look forward to seeing the finished film. I’ll be sharing this page and checking back and donating to help get it made.

Nice video..I have been picking wild mushrooms for the last 12 years. Currently have managed to create my own spore shot, inject spores into a medium, and currently have mycelium growing in the basement-I think it is just too cold to fool mother nature, but I am making knowledgable progress in the world of micro-biology. Looking forward to your future productions.
Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and finally got the courage
to go ahead and give you a shout out from Houston Tx!
Just wanted to tell you keep up the fantastic job!

very important to locate the top LED grow lights available for the market today.
Led grow light best In earlier times, that meant a dark room, full
of chemicals and taking plenty of effort.

Dear Dr. Stamets,
Please come to Atlanta with your film and your knowledge. I am on the board and several committees with the Georgia Native Plant Society and also a co-founder with Atlanta Protects Trees. We are trying to quickly spread awareness throughout our metro area and state-wide of the value of the unique ecosystem we have in the Southeast. The current turn-key development pattern is destroying our tree canopy at a rate of 100 acres per day and outpacing our efforts. Trees, I believe, are a keystone in our ecosystem, and simply must be protected. Atlanta has a huge collection of old-growth soils sprinkled throughout the urban green spaces due to the late, 1820’s transfer of Creek property to the city. And with those spaces, the “gold” old-growth soils and mycelium that have communicated with and nourished the native plants, trees, water and air. for centuries Your film and your work is an inspiration. I would so very much like to see your knowledge presented in our community . GNPS is looking for speakers next year. There is also a multitude of non-profits that would also be interested which I believe, with the right marketing, would be a packed audience. Please come!
Hi I would love to know where I can watch the movie online???
Merci!
Is Fantastic Fungi CC (closed captioned)? I would like to see it but I am hard-of-hearing. Thanks.
