Coming Shroom

The Fantastic Fungi Kickstarter Campaign

Dear beloved fungal friends,

It’s finally here. The scientifically sound, environmentally critical, consciousness-expanding, crowd-pleasing crowdfunding campaign to end all campaigns. We’re going to make a film about mushrooms and it’s going to blow your mind.

We have spent the last seven months growing, nurturing, dialoging, learning, laughing and inspiring this beloved community of fungal fanatics. We’ve poured over your comments, we’ve answered some tricky questions, we’ve collected the most stunning fungi photography from our community that took our breath away (and we’re not so easily impressed around here), we’ve co-created mushroom sing-alongs and we’ve discovered that there are only 4 types of people in the world: The Artist, The Shaman, The Gourmand and the Healer. We’ve genuinely enjoyed every minute. So, we want to THANK YOU for being such an important part of this journey.

Make no mistake about it, the film that we’re creating is being made FOR YOU.

This is a film that we cannot make with big studio bigwigs. Nor would we want to. No offense to Hollywood (we have some very dear friends who give Hollywood a good name), but we want to tell the story our way. We want to expose the truth about the role fungi can – and WILL with your help – play in solving our planet’s gravest problems. We want to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty, sharing scientific discoveries and real-life experiences that reveal how fungi help heal cancer, improve life for terminally ill patients, treat PTSD, clean the atmosphere by sequestering carbon back into the soil and shift our perspective so profoundly that we may understand our symbiotic relationship with nature in a whole new light.

And we’re going to reveal this evidence through the lens of a master, using mind-bending time-lapse cinematography from the Godfather himself, Louie Schwartzberg.

Now is the time.

You know it. We know it. It’s why we’ve been on this road together for the last several months, and it’s why you’re reading this blog right now. In your gut, you know that it’s up to US, the citizens, to be the stewards of the land and usher in a new economy of sustainability and consciousness. This is not a job for big government, big agriculture, big pharma or big studios. This is a job for the people, and we are so grateful we live the era of Kickstarter – the most awesome way we could ever imagine to galvanize activists at a grassroots level to create meaningful change.

Help us make this film. We’ve pulled together the biggest change agents in environmental activism – Paul Stamets, Dr. Andrew Weil, Lyn Lear, Michael Pollan, among others. And we have our beloved, award-winning filmmaker and eco-warrior, Louie Schwartzberg, behind the camera calling the shots.

We’re gonna make history starting Wednesday.

Now we need you. Are you with us? Stay tuned, dear mycophiles…

In Love and Gratitude,

The Fantastic Fungi Family

Thank you for your compassionate insights.
I know they are right because I feel the words more than I “think” them.

I thought this was beautiful and would love to donate if you had a mychologist I have been following for years from Montana, his name Larry Evans from fungal jungal. He has dedicated his life to the field of mushrooms all over the world. He has focused on the preservation of nature for our planet.

To attract the scientists you can clean up your use of terms: Fungi = plural, Fungus = singular, Fungal = adjective as in The Fantastic Fungal Family.

Wow, snarky much? That’s exactly how they did use the terms unless you’re objecting to word play? They have scientists but after clicking your link I can see why you’re bitter and needing to feel better criticizing this film. Maybe you’re the reason people ignore science these days. We need more educational films like this one and less arrogant scientists like you.

You are doing great work. The soil is our future. I am a farmer in dry Western Australia growing cereal crops and livestock. I am surrounded by “industrial farming ” which relies heavily on chemicals, fungicides and man made fertilizer. I am trying to do different. We use mineral based fertilizer and add beneficial fungi and bacteria to seed at sowing to provide the crop with feeders and protectors throughout it’s cycle. I am hoping to be successful and lead others by example. It is not easy. There is very strong sales agronomy in the area. I look forward to your continuing work.
