TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences under the slogan “ideas worth spreading“. TED was founded in 1984 as a one-off event and began as an annual conference in 1990, in Monterey, California. TED2014: Vancouver marks Louie’s fifth appearance on the TED stage. This year, Louie presents how Time-Lapse Photography Makes the Invisible, Visible.
His most celebrated talks, Nature. Beauty. Gratitude. and The Hidden Beauty of Pollination, have been viewed over 35 million times across the web.

Pollination: it’s vital to life on Earth, but largely unseen by the human eye. In March of 2011, Louie opened the eyes of the TED audience to the intricate balance of pollen and pollinators using gorgeous high-speed images from his movie, Wings Of Life. His talk, The Hidden Beauty of Pollination revealed that Nature’s best defense is its beauty. He also spoke of the absolute necessity of pollinators to our existence on Earth and the growing concerns of Colony Collapse Disorder. Pollinators contribute vital growth to 1/3rd of the Earth’s food supply.

Later that year in June, Louie stood before TEDxSF to speak about the gift of Nature. Beauty. Gratitude. His stunning time-lapse photography, accompanied by powerful words from Benedictine monk Brother David Steindl-Rast, serves as a meditation on being grateful for every day.
It is an honor that Louie has been hand-picked for TED2014 Vancouver. We see this as a sign that Louie’s work is important to the universe and must be shared with the worlds eyes, ears and hearts. His message of mindfulness and protection, gratitude and wellbeing are perfect for the TED2014 stage.
