How will you celebrate World Friendship Day? For this holiday, people around the world celebrate friends both near and far. It’s an especially important holiday during this transformative moment in history.
Even though many of us are separated right now, we need to remember the friends who bind us together. They are part of our human mycelial network, and we support each other across distances.
Who do you miss the most right now? Take a moment to think about your friends around the world. Then watch this 30-second meditation from Louie, reminding us of the cosmic connections that make a single friendship possible.

Synchronicity and Friendship
If you don’t want to watch the meditation, just read Louie’s words:
How often have you run into a friend in a supermarket or at an airport in a different city, coming around a corner at the exact moment in time to intersect with you?
If you had brushed your teeth 10 seconds longer or stopped at another red light you would never run into each other. Yet this happens all the time, occurrences that are beyond mathematical probability.
This cannot be a coincidence, for each moment is exactly as it should be.
These are not just random occurrences that bring us together. These are also called synchronicities, or meaningful coincidences that we can use as guideposts in our lives.
How To Reconnect with Awe & Wonder
Best of all, these moments can reconnect you with a sense of awe and the power of nature’s intelligence.
Journalist Gregg Levoy wrote about synchronicity and awe in a great column at Psychology Today.
Synchronicities are like a glimpse of a wild animal seldom seen, the discovery of an arrowhead or a geode, the return of your purse by some good Samaritan. Far removed from the mundaneness that seems to characterize such a vast portion of daily life, they help reconnect you to your sense of awe, and given the tyranny of the commonplace, what a service!
For centuries, humans have tried to understand these cosmic road signs. Author Michael Harner wrote about synchronicity in his book, The Way of the Shaman, urging us to follow these signs:
“watch for the frequency of positive synchronicities as a kind of homing beacon analogous to a radio directional signal to indicate that the right procedures and methods are being employed.”
We can use these “homing beacons” to find our friends as well. World Friendship Day is to connect with our friends across all distances.
Send your cosmic friend a note or a small gift this week. Everybody could use a little extra encouragement these days!
